|Maine Bar Rule 12 Continuing Legal Education became effective January 1, 2001. Rule 12 requires all active resident and non-resident attorneys to complete 11 hours of continuing legal education each year, including one hour of ethics. Half of the requirement may be earned through the use of self-study materials, to include audio, video, written text, teleconference, satellite, webcasts or online programming. Resident active attorneys are required to provide proof of attendance for programming and report annually at registration time. Non-resident active attorneys are able to self-certify their attendance at registration time. There are a number of approved CLE courses listed on our website. Attorneys can access CLE attendance by entering their bar number and PIN number. Non-compliance with CLE can result in a summary suspension.
